South Eastern Railway (SER) has imposed a fine of Rs 12 lakh on Brandavan Food Products, the private caterer engaged by it to serve meals on the Howrah-Mumbai Gitanjali Express.
The errant caterer's men had assaulted four passengers of Howrah-bound Gitanjali Express on July 25, South Eastern railway officials said. The caterer has also been in news lately after its cook was hauled up for serving undercooked chicken.
The caterer hired for The Gitanjali Express also had its catering unit charged for two other complaints against them. While SER has filed charges against the five accused, who were arrested in Kharagpur and are now out of bail, nobody seems certain whether action will be taken against the caterer.
This fine amount is highest-ever among all the fines imposed on contract based private caterer of the Indian Railways," the officials said.
